13 steps STITCHING SIDE BLOCKS c d Using scissors, trim away the excess batting from the tack down stitches. Heirloom Christmas | 2017 Q3 Workshop Step 2 will be the tack down stitch, securing your batting to your stabilizer. e f Step 3 of the design will be the placement stitch for your first piece of appliqué. g h Step 4 of the design will be the tack down stitch for the first piece of appliqué. Place your first piece of appliqué, right side up, over top of the placement stitches. Be sure to leave at least 1/2” on the top, bottom, and side. Trim away the excess fabric from the tack down stitches. Do not trim away the seam allowance on the sides of the block.
