15 steps STITCHING BOTTOM BLOCKS a b Use the stiffener template provided on your CD-ROM for exact size of stiffener. You will need to first print and trim out template, then trace onto a piece of stiffener. Carefully trim out the stiffener and place inside the placement stitches of the design. Use spray adhesive if needed to hold in place. Heirloom Christmas | 2017 Q3 Workshop The bottom blocks of the tote are made differently using design ‘DOODLE BLOCK-4’. To start, hoop a piece of No- Show mesh stabilizer and run step 1 of the design. This is your placement stitch for the stiffener. c d The second step will be the tack down stitch for the stiffener. These stitches will be slightly inside the placement stitches ran in step ‘A’ e f Step 3 of the design will be the tack down stitch for your base fabric. You will then run the final embroidery step which is the decorative elements of your block. After the stiffener is tacked down, place your base fabric, right side facing up, so that it completely covers the stiffener and placement stitches by at least 1/2” on all four sides. Using a rotary cutter and ruler, trim your block leaving a 1/2” seam allowance. This is an example of your completed bottom block. You will need 3 total of this block for the bottom of the tote bag.
