THINK OUTSIDE OF THE QUILT BLOCK Explore Different Fabrics When you choose fabrics for your designs, you need to think outside of the box like we did to create the 3D Gingerbread House. We used cotton blends, felt, minky, and linen to add texture and dimension. Before you start the project, consider the overall look you want to have. This will help when picking out your fabrics! Different types of Appliqué Included in these designs are traditional standard appliqués. The standard appliqué technique is simply a piece of fabric used to cover a portion of the design and is usually finished with a satin stitch. This project includes very similar features, but all the windows and candy jars are made with an additional layer of appliqué overlay. We used organza on all the windows of both the outside and inside designs. This gives the window appliqué fabric an added shimmer almost like a real window! All of the small candy jars on the inside designs of the house have an added vinyl appliqué overlay to give them sparkle and shine! We encourage you to try these different appliqués when creating your 3D Gingerbread House. 3D GINGERBREAD HOUSE | Project Collection | 97
