But our furry friends can also bring with them some unwanted and possibly dangerous stowaways—parasites. Dogs and cats can �������������������������������������������������������������������������������������� compromise their health, and some of these worms can spread to their owners. ���������������������������������������������������������������������������������� not as common in the U.S. as in other parts of the world, but these worms have been the cause of skin diseases, liver disease, and worse. Pets shed intestinal parasite eggs or cysts in their feces, which then contaminate the environment and leave eggs in the dirt where they can sometimes survive for months.
