Cancer is a word no one wants to hear their doctor say, but should the occasion occur, the next words you might want to hear are hightech, experienced and compassionate. These words sum up the goal for the Meadows Regional Cancer Center. The center believes effective cancer management is achieved only when leading-edge science is combined with decades of experience and compassionate care. When it comes to targeting and destroying tumor cells, precision is the first word of cancer treatment. The Tommy and Shirley Strickland Cancer Center uses state-of-the-art equipment like the Elekta® Synergy Linear Accelerator–the industry’s best for radiation treatment. This machine ensures the exact amount of radiation administered is necessary, which minimizes damage to the surrounding healthy tissue and results in faster treatment times. The physicians at the center have been treating nearly every type of cancer, even the most complex cases, for more than two decades. In addition to a caring oncology team, patients at the center have a personal nurse navigator to walk through the process with them from the moment they arrive to the day they ring the Celebration Bell. This collaborative effort ensures each patient gets the best, most personalized treatment available. Radiation Therapists Radiation therapists operate linear accelerators, which are used to deliver therapy. The Elekta Synergy Linear Accelerator used for radiation treatments at Meadows is so technologically advanced that if a tumor were comparable to a dime, the machine could follow every ridge of that dime as it delivers radiation. This ensures precision radiation treatment and minimizes damage to surrounding healthy tissue. Therapists Miller, Sapp and Turner are all credentialed through The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
