Hometown Living At Its Best 61 Princetta returned in July and secured the building for a new salon. She returned to Kuwait in August for seven weeks to sell everything and move home. “I was going to have to start all over again,” she said, but this time, it would be with over three and a half years of international experience. Face to Face Global Hair Salon opened on October 21, 2016. “I am the first African American female to own a ‘Full Service Salon’ that is multicultural and unisex in historical downtown Vidalia,” said Princetta. “Including myself, I have six stylists. There’s three men and three ladies. One is strictly a barber. Besides hair, we do everything from braids, facials, lashes, and waxing.” In the hallway between the suites, pictures of former clients in Kuwait present an international and multicultural image for Princetta’s global salon. She also plans to use the salon to train other stylists. “In two weeks, I’ll be doing my first hair cutting class for hair stylists. That’s my passion. There are so many who don’t know the business side. When I graduated from school, I was learning how to do hair but not the business side of things. I want to be able to teach these young girls how to get the right start from the beginning.” Princetta’s passion reaches beyond her own industry. “When I was overseas,” she said, “there wasn’t black or white. They were just Kuwaitis. There wasn’t this division thing. My church was multicultural… I will continue this journey by bridging the gap between age, race, and even orientation by reaching beyond the walls, and not just of my salon, to help mold the future of this community. I want to help create a community without divisions. My mama kind of raised us like that.” Princetta continues to demonstrate that the unplanned twists and turns of life do not disqualify or limit our dreams. Instead, hardships and even failures give us the opportunity to learn and to get up again smarter and stronger than before. The way to our dreams is rarely as difficult to discover as some might imagine.
