The natural, clean-burning gas-fired power plant is located just north of Carrollton. The facility will replace the outdated coal-fired plants currently in use in the area. The 700 megawatts produced by this station will be enough to power 700,000 homes. The new facility will employ a "new state-of-the-art General Electric natural gas and steam turbine" which is called a "combined-cycle" turbine. The new technology allows for an efficient generation of power with a minimal effect on the environment. The construction of the facility itself has created a significant number of new jobs for area workers. When the plant is complete and fully operational, it will create 25-30 fulltime engineering, management and operation personnel jobs. The facility is in the final phase of construction with the installment of major equipment. When all the major equipment is in place, the facility will undergo a series of testing before being put into operation. This new enterprise represents a capital investment in Carroll County of $800 million, which will provide local tax revenue and it will benefit the local economy through the purchase of goods and services. © 2017 Sarah J.
