CHAMBER CELEBRATES con't. next column CHAMBER CELEBRATES continued Illustration by L. S. Crain, Southern Pines. Chamber Celebrates Fifty Years by Linda M. Parsons, IOM, CCEC The Moore County Chamber of Commerce is celebrating 50 years serving the business and non-profit community in 2017. In 1967, a group of dedicated business owners had the vision to revive a Chamber of Commerce in the Moore County community. While starting out as the Southern Pines Area Chamber of Commerce, being re-named the Sandhills Area Chamber of Commerce in 1968, and eventually the Moore County Chamber of Commerce in 2004, each of these name changes reflected the changing demographic of the community. These founding members were already planning, and their foresight has helped to pay the way for all that has been accomplished by the organization and its members in the past half-century. Through the years, the Moore County Chamber has contributed greatly to help build Moore County into one of the most vibrant parts of NC. “I couldn’t be more proud than to have the honor to serve as Chairman during the 50th Anniversary of the Moore County Chamber of Commerce,” said Michael Gorenflo, 2017 Chairman of the Board. “The Chamber has consistently advocated for businesses, big and small, through the greatest period of change our Community has seen, while maintaining its relevance and steadfastly pursuing its mission to foster a vibrant business community. It is my hope that in 50 years, the stewards of the Chamber will look back at our time with pride, like we remember the efforts of our founding businesses, and all those business members in between, who have participated in our continuing success.” During the 50th Celebration in March, several businesses were recognized who have supported the Chamber since its inception who are still members today. These include: Aberdeen Coca-Cola Bottling Co. • Duke Power (formally Carolina Power & Light Co.) • The Country Bookshop, Inc. • The Country Club of North Carolina • Fields Plumbing & Heating Co., Inc. • George Little & Associates (Formally George W. Little, Metropolitan Life) • McNeill Oil Company, Inc. • Mid Pines Resort & Golf Club • Pinehurst, LLC • The Pilot • Pine Needles Lodge and Country Club • Pope Electric Service Inc. • Powell Funeral Home • Town and Country Shopping Center • The Country Club of Whispering Pines “We are proud to have such a rich history serving the Moore County Community,” said Linda Parsons, President & CEO of the Moore County Chamber of Commerce. “Countless individuals throughout the last decade from the Chairman of the Board, board members, volunteers and staff have helped to ensure that our mission was carried out. I’m honored to serve as the President and CEO for this organization with such a rich history supporting the business and non-profits of this great community, we are all so fortunate to call home.” Today the Moore County’s primary mission is to foster a vibrant business community with over 670 members. The organization works to connect business and community and looks forward to serving the Moore County community for another 50 years. Linda Parsons, Moore County Chamber of Commerce.
