Seaside Park Keep Off The Dunes Why do we plant dune grass? Dune grass has long roots that help to hold the sand in place during storms and high tides. The grass is tall and captures wind blown sand. Driftwood, seaweed and other bits of organic material also get trapped in the grass. Over time the organic material breaks down into rich soil. Seed that are blown into the area settles and fall. Plants grown and help to keep our beaches stable.
