I was recruited to join the Theater in 1969 and I jumped at the chance. I, along with Ann Vause of Fairmont, took on the task of doing the stage makeup and hair for the shows and we loved it. It wasn’t long before I was asked to take a small role in “Our Town” and being the “Ham” that I am, I was hooked by the lime light. I continued to work the makeup department with Ann but still had my stage time. I never missed being in one of our productions in some capacity for the next 25 years. I loved all the shows we presented but the one that holds a special place in my heart was “Fiddler on the Roof”. The talent in that show was as professional as it gets and I would love to give credit where it is due but we have space limits on these articles and it would take up the entire magazine. I will sneak in that Alan Sugar was amazing and so was the entire main cast. My daughter Tara Warwick Prezimirski made her stage debut at nine years old in a lead role as Bielke and went on to do several other plays and musicals with the Theater. I was in the cast as well and it was so much fun to be on stage as a family and oh yes, she was awesome. I truly loved being on stage and was in nearly all the plays and all the musicals, but I wanted to try my hand as a director. My director. Over the next several years I directed many funny and entertaining comedies. I loved them all but the one that stands out with me was “Steel Magnolias” in 1989. That was such a fun show to direct and my all-female cast was talent at its “Gypsy”. My cast was super talented and made me so proud of our accomplishment in presenting a top-notch show. I have barely scraped the surface on what Robeson Little Theater brought to our area and the members who worked hard to make it happen. Our work was all volunteer and the dedication and professionalism showed strongly in every production we performed. Some of the best talent was discovered on our stage, but more important was all the lasting friendships we made that have stood the test of time. We were a family that loved the arts and being on stage to showcase all the talent within us. So many of my dearest friends today were the ones I met over the years in the Theater and those friendships I treasure. I must give credit to a couple of my dearest friends from our Theater years that helped me research some of the dates in my article. Peggy Atkinson Lawrence and Joy Jones were so helpful and I can’t thank them enough. I had to drop out of RLT after close to 30 years because of my job and taking care of my sick Mama which I viewed as a privilege. I missed it so much but my precious Mama was my priority. 15, 2010 and I must admit I cried like a baby but all good things come to an end eventually, I guess. Robeson Little Theater may be gone but some of the best memories of my life will live on forever of my years spent being a part of Lumberton’s “Crown Jewel.” Thank you, Nell Lyon and Ila Johnson for your vision, hard work and dedication in bringing Robeson Little Theater to us and the joy it brought into so many lives and especially mine.
