APPLIQUÉ Recipe A. B. 122 D. The first step with any appliqué is the placement stitch. This single running stitch will show you how large to cut your piece of fabric and where to place your appliqué fabric. C. The second step with any appliqué is the tacking stitch. This series of bean stitches will secure the appliqué fabric to your base fabric. E. F. These specific designs use a satin "Ghost Stitch" that is intended to blend in with appliqué. This type of stitch is used to help hide the tack down stitch in order to prevent the final decorative Satin Stitch from being too wide. Place your fabric, right-side up, over the placement stitch. Make sure the piece is large enough and completely covers the placement stitch. Remove the hoop from your machine, but leave the fabric hooped. Carefully trim away the excess appliqué fabric as close to the tacking stitches as possible. This is an example of the finished appliqué design.
