FREE MOTION Recipe A. B. 132 D. The first step with any quilt block is the placement stitch. This single running stitch will show you how large to cut your piece of fabric and where to place your batting and base fabric. C. The next step with any quilt block is the tacking stitch for the batting. This series of bean stitches will secure batting to the stabilizer. Once that runs remove the hoop from your machine while leaving the fabric hooped and trim the excess batting. E. Run the tack down stitch for the base fabric. Again you should have at least a ½" outside of the tacking stitch on all 4 sides. Place your batting over the placement stitch. Make sure the piece is large enough to completely cover the placement stitch. Next you can apply your base fabric. Make sure it is big enough to completely cover the batting, overlapping it by at least a ½" on all sides. This will leave us a seam allowance when we are complete. F. Now it is time for you to run the embroidery steps. Different designs will have different amounts of color changes, so plan ahead by going over the steps for the design you choose.
