GHOST APPLIQUÉ NOTES APPLI-STATS Minimum finishing stitch width: 4mm total Tacking style: 2-ply Trimming style: Close as possible Fabrics that work best: Any Fabric If you want to use appliqué in a design that was not originally drawn for appliqué or perhaps, when digitizing it you feel that the wide outlines look too bold, you should use ghost appliqué. Designs are created this way using two separate finishing stitches. The first stitch, which is the ghost stitch, is stitched the same color as the fabric (1). The ghost stitch is holding the appliqué in place and needs to be at least 4mm in width. Since it is the same color as the appliqué it is nearly invisible. You can then finish your design with a standard satin (2) that only needs to be 2mm wide. This style looks great with outlines that are contrasting. You can use a lighter density for your ghost stitch as well. You will also want to check your satin stitch angles - if they are the same for both the ghost and outline stitches, you’ll notice a “sawtooth” effect where the stitches bleed into each other. Different angles for these two stitches will give them more definition.
