NOTES PUFFY APPLIQUÉ APPLI-STATS Minimum finishing stitch width: 5mm Tacking style: Spot-tack first, then 2-ply Trimming style: Close as possible Fabrics that work best: Stretch Fabrics Puffy appliqué is created by adding quilt batting between the appliqué and the base fabric. You would trim the batting at the same time as the appliqué fabric, trapping the batting under the appliqué only. By doing this you will add loft to the design which is why stretch fabrics work the best. You will need to spot-tack the appliqué and batting first. If you don’t, the fabric can fold over on itself when stitching the tacking stitch. A spot-tack is created by simply adding in a small 3-ply stitch at various points around the appliqué before going around the whole design with your 2-ply.
