VINYL APPLIQUÉ NOTES APPLI-STATS Minimum finishing stitch width: Bean or 5-ply running stitch Tacking style: 2-ply Light stitch zig zag Trimming style: Close as possible Fabrics that work best: Vinyl Our clear vinyl technique works great when you want to create a look that resembles glass. We have used this technique on terrariums, fishbowls, and snow globes. There are two layers of appliqué in this type of design. The first layer is the background. The second layer is the clear plastic. You will create the first layer as you would a standard appliqué, skipping the finishing stitch. You would then create all of the design elements that make up the design (whatever is under the vinyl). When you are ready for the plastic, place it on top of the design and add another tacking stitch. You would then add a ghost stitch (1) that is set to a much lower density. This light stitch will hold your vinyl in place without puncturing it so much that it falls apart. You can finish the design with a 2mm satin (2) for a clean outline.
