NOTES WHAT IS DIGITIZING? What is digitizing? I have been getting this question for the last 23 years when people ask me what I do for a living. To me, it has always been a simple response, “I create art using thread.” Unfortunately, this response usually elicits even more questions and a lengthy explanation. But, in a nutshell, that is what digitizing is all about. You create art using software, artwork, and your skills, and that art happens to be created using thread. What could be more wonderful? With that being said, to create embroidery designs requires a vast knowledge of stitch theory and theory implementation. It is not as simple as tracing a design and stitching it. Every design you ever encounter is different. It is not like following a recipe. When thread interacts with fabric, it has a mind of its own and it is our job to understand why it does what it does. Through Digitizing University you will learn everything you need to know to create your own designs. You will learn all about artwork, stitch types, and stitch theory, as well as (and most importantly) how to implement them in your own designs. I am going to give you dozens of tips and tricks that I use every day at Anita Goodesign. This workbook includes dozens examples of designs I have created that demonstrate the techniques shown in this class. What is the next step after this class? I am reminded of a quote. While walking in NYC, a tourist stopped a passerby and asked, “How do I get to Carnegie Hall?” The response was quite simple, “Practice, Practice, Practice.”
