WHEN WOULD YOU USE A FILL STITCH? NOTES Fill stitches when used properly can be used as background stitching, to create realism and fur-like effects, and to fill large areas with stitching. However, using them to fill large areas is what I use them the least for. These are all of the problems a fill stitch can cause when used improperly: 1. When you see a design that feels thick like cardboard, it is usually caused by fill stitches. 2. Portions of a design that you can see through 3. Puckering of fabric 4. Excessive run times 5.
