TOOLS OF THE TRADE NOTES This class will give you lots of insight and the tools to build real digitizing skills. However, digitizing also requires a different set of tools. Over the years, the equipment required to digitized has changed quite a bit. And, even today, there are a few ways to get set up to digitize. But, I have found that when you have the best tools available to use, the job is much faster, much easier, and therefore, much more enjoyable. This section will outline the equipment we use and why I recommend these tools: 1. Graphics Tablet 2. Macro-keyboard 3. Digitizing Software 4. Scanner and/or Drawing Software 5. Embroidery Machine All of my digitizers use the same set-up, of which you can see an example of here. There are slight variations in set up from digitizer to digitizer. That’s one of the reasons why I like the equipment we use; you can customize it to what’s comfortable to you. The tablet screen tilts and rotates, and the keyboard is modular and can be set up however works best for your hand. But, the most important part of setting up a digitizing work station, is to make sure you have a comfortable chair! Having the right chair at the right height can prevent shoulder and neck pain.
