TRIMMING APPLIQUÉ �� For appliqués, we included built in machine steps for placing your appliqué and tacking it in place. Once the appliqué is tacked down, you remove the hoop from the machine and trim the excess fabric as close to the tack down stitches as possible. This idea can vary depending on the type of fabric or the type of finishing stitch around your appliqué. Below are a few “Quick Tips” for working with different fabrics for appliqués: Silk - a fine, fibrous fabric that creates an elegant appeal to your embroidery design. Since it is a fine fabric, you may notice the embroidery stitches will pull on the fabric towards the center of the design. To prevent that, we will wait to trim until right before the finishing stitch is applied. Organza - a lovely, sheer fabric used to give your design a wonderful floating effect. Always handle the organza with a little extra care. The fabric can tear or snag easily. Also, when using as an appliqué, be sure to leave 1/8” around the outside stitches when trimming the excess fabric. Blanket Stitch - a way to finish your appliqué edges with a pretty, traditional look. This unique border results in a soft and lightweight design perfect for garments. When trimming away the excess fabric, cut as close to the tack down stitches as possible because the actual blanket stitch is not as forgiving as a satin stitch.
