INTERFACING Interfacing or often times called a “backing” is a piece of special material placed under the main fabric on which you intend to embroider, to make this fabric more stable. Embroidery backings prevent fabric puckering and fabric stretching. Also consider the amount of stitches in the design, especially if the stitch count is over 40,000. We recommend using Pellon 860F Ultra - a fusible weft interfacing. It’s very simple and easy! Interfacings come in two main types (fusible or sew-in), three main weaves (non-woven, woven and knit), and in different weights (light, medium, heavy weight). It is important to choose the correct type of interfacing for your garment; if we use interfacing in our collections, we will indicate what type you need. To apply the interfacing, lay your fabric right side down on your ironing board. Lay the interfacing fusible side down on top of the fabric. The fusible side will have a bumpiness to it, whereas the nonfusible side will be smooth. You will then use an iron to attach the fusible backing to your fabric.
