What Is Rayon? We love rayon because of its attractive high-sheen, widespread availability, and consistent trouble-free performance. It holds up to high-speed stitching without breaking or fraying. Rayon thread comes in a wide range of solid and variegated colors. It even comes in a new “twist” thread, which is composed of two or more solid colors twisted together to form a single strand - this adds automatic shading and dimension to flat designs. Rayon threads are available in a standard 40wt and a thicker 30wt (in terms of thread sizing, the higher the number, the finer the thread). RAYON THREAD Collections Using Rayon Threads When our company first started back in 2004, we used Robison-Anton Rayon thread in almost all of our collections, until we switched to Madeira a few years later. It is easy to see in this classic collection called Paisley Daze that Rayon truly does carry a very vibrant and rich hue. We typically used 40wt threads with a 75/11 universal needle when stitching out our designs.
