What Is Cotton Thread? There are 100% cotton threads and ones with a poly core that increases its strength for machine embroidery. It also comes in a wide range of weights for different looks. If you want the soft, warm, natural look and feel of cotton (with a matte finish) you’ll love using this type of thread. COTTON THREAD Collections Using Cotton Threads Our event curriculum for the first quarter of 2016 is Anita’s Wonderland. In this collection we used cotton fabrics as well as Mettler Silk Fusion cotton thread to give it an heirloom look. We used 50wt cotton thread throughout this collection and an 80/12 needle. Depending on the manufacturer, you may need to use the same advice we give for metallic thread in the following Tips & Tricks section of this guide.
