DYEING WITH THREAD Using cotton thread for the quilting stitches makes means that it will blend in with the cotton fabric when dyed. When using threads on projects that you are going to end up dyeing, it is important to remember different types of threads react differently when dyed. Cotton thread absorbs the dye very well as expected, and works great for stippling or quilting stitches that you want to blend in with the base fabric. When you want something to pop, however, we recommend using polyester thread. Polyester thread will resist most dyes and stands out on your finished project, resulting in a stunning look. This is a picture from our collection called Botanical Trapunto Borders. The white polyester thread did not take the dye, and we used it in this collection to highlight the trapunto flowers.
