The quilted backgrounds are very traditional, utilizing Bargello, herringbone, and log cabin patterns. Once the backgrounds were complete, we added 3D embroidery to each of the pieces. This started by building a wood base that matched the embroidered pieces, attaching the wood base to the background using miniature pilings, and then affixing the embroidered pieces to the wood platforms. The end result is amazing and unlike anything you have ever seen before. Once the pieces were complete, they were ready to be framed and hung in the gallery. They hosted two parties to kick off the show, each event was attended by well over 200 people. We are including pictures from the event. The reaction from everyone that attended was amazing. Remember, these are people who are not embroidery enthusiasts, so they had no idea what to expect. We answered questions all night about the pieces and a number of them were sold on opening night, that is something that rarely happens in the fine art world. Some people couldn’t believe that the pieces were created using fabric and thread entirely. In a way, the show was a validation for what you do and what Anita Goodesign does every day. We demonstrated to the fine art world that embroidery is an art form! Part 2 of this series will give you more insight into the techniques that we used to create these pieces. We will show you how we chose fabric, applied paint, and transformed quilts into pieces of art. Stay tuned... Stephen Wilson Founder Anita Goodesign, Inc.
