3D EMBROIDERY One of the questions that we were asked was, “How do you get the embroidery to float above the background?” For each of the 3D elements, we cut out silhouettes out of thin pieces of wood. Then, using hundreds of screws and spacers, created a floating structure to attach the appliqué embroidery pieces to. The embroidery pieces were glued in place directly to the wood. Each of the art pieces took dozens, if not hundreds, of hours to complete. The hardest part of the process was creating the 3D structure. If you were to try something like this at home, you could use foam to practice this technique.
