After the placement stitch is embroidered take your appliqué fabric and place it face down on the back of the hoop and tape in place. Tack the appliqué in place as you normally would. When it is time to trim, you will trim the shirt or top fabric away revealing the appliqué fabric underneath. When the design is laundered, the shirt or base fabric will curl, resulting in an interesting look. This technique is primarily used on clothing.
