NOTES VARIABLE 1 - STITCH LENGTH/WIDTH There are more variables when using a satin stitch than there are with a running stitch. The first is stitch length. With a running stitch, you simply control the stitch length by changing it after you digitize a segment of the design. With a satin stitch, that is not necessarily true. If you digitize a pair of points 1mm apart when you start a segment, then it will be a 1mm stitch. Conversely, if you digitize a pair of points 20mm apart, the satin stitch will not form. You really need to understand the artwork and stitch types before you attempt a satin stitch. I recommend a width between 2-8mm for successful stitching - Any shorter than 2mm and your stitches risk being sucked into the fabric, any longer than 8mm and they will become loose and risk getting snagged. There are instances when you will use lengths longer than that, but for the most part you should stay within those parameters.
