August’s Bartender of the Month is Rachel Parham. I know. I honestly do not know what took me so long to get to her! I have known Rachel for a good solid minute and have always enjoyed her company. However, in my own defense, I don’t really think about The Pier having a bar, but they do and YOU MUST GO see Rachel at the Rip Tide Bar on The Pier. I had a chance to sit down over a cocktail with her and here is her story: Rachel was born in Eatonton, Georgia. Raised on a dairy farm with her two sisters, Rachel spent her beginning years working the farm with the family and going to school. After doing her formative years in Eatonton, Rachel left in 1999 to attend Georgia Southern. After graduating with a degree in Graphic Arts, Rachel went to Orlando for two seconds for an internship. An invite to Jacksonville, FL from her old college roommate got her going in the right direction. After living in FL for a few years and working in her field, Rachel accepted a sales position for a garden produce company that transferred her to the Savannah area. Moving straight to Tybee (as we all end up doing), Rachel shucked and jived until it was time to take a break and have a change of pace. Enter bartending! Working around Tybee for a minute, Rachel went from Nickie’s to the Pier and has called that home ever since. The most important questions of life were asked: How long have you lived on Tybee: 8 years When I grow up: I want to be happy and healthy My Passion: Family, friends, live music and anything outdoors My Spirit Animal: Flamingo! They are so social and when I see them they make me happy! Rachel’s go to drink is the Rachel Special. I can’t really go into detail here, but yeah. Do it. Another go to is the Jalapeno Margarita. Both are fabulous, but start with the Rachel Special and then come back to get the Margarita!! Rachel is someone to get to know for sure. If you haven’t been to The Rip Tide, get there now. If you have been, go back for more. Not only is it the best view on the island, it is perfect for sipping a Rachel Special and watching the people go by. just By Alaina Loughridge - Photo by Wen McNally LOW AS Delivery Weddings Parties Tours Late Night WE ALSO RIDE OFF THE ISLAND! 361-TURTLES MMM...So Good! hours tues-fri: 7:30-5 sat: 8-5 sun: 8-3 mon: closed Espresso, frappes & smoothies 1213 80 east Next door to huc a poos in tybee oaks center 912-224-5227 TYBEE BEACHCOMBER | AUG 2017 21
