Tybee's Only True Beachfront Restaurant & Bar! Sip a margarita at our Crusty Seagull Margarita Bar while sampling our "worldly street food menu". 404 Butler Avenue (Inside the Beachside Colony) Tybee Island, Ga. 912-712-2750 ext 2 TYBEE BEACHCOMBER | AUG 2017 35 Main Street Musings Chantel Morton, Program Staff Director Really?!?!? It’s August already?!?!? Well, that means that we’re all trying to get the last-of-summer activities and sunbathing trips to the beach in before school resumes. Your enjoyment of living and/or working at and visiting Tybee need not be delayed even with the GA DOT paving project underway and speed limits in school zones in effect again. There are still plenty of activities to enjoy in August as school, sports, cooler temps, and other commitments take over! As the traffic – both vehicular and pedestrian – subsides a little, the calendar increases with plenty of ways to enjoy this sweet town. Visiting with neighbors, prepping the garden for fall plantings, getting your fav seat at one of our fab restaurants, making your way by bike to the dentist, Farmers’ Market, Post Theater and/or galleries seems easier when school is back in session. Plus, even relaxing at one of Tybee’s parks seems more enjoyable. Relaxing at Memorial Park on August 19 will definitely be enjoyable when the moon rises for the finale of the 2017 summer series of Movies in the Park. That’s right! As the sun goes down and the moon begins to shine on Saturday, August 19, Lost & Found will be shown on the “big” inflatable screen for all to enjoy. So, pack a picnic, grab a blanket and some beach chairs, and find your spot at Memorial Park to get lost in the movie (Did you see how that worked?). The movie will begin once the sun sets and the stars in the sky shine enough to let the stars be seen on the screen that will be in front of the Gym wall. Keep in mind that if there is inclement weather, the movie will be moved indoors to the gym. Lost & Found, rated PG, has been said to be reminiscent of the Hardy Boys mixed with National Treasure. The movie is a heartfelt adventure as two brothers are sent to spend the summer on a remote island and embark on a thrilling treasure hunt to restore their family’s lost fortune. You’ll be kept on the edge of your chair – or blanket – as you witness family values, dreams, greed, companionship, and love as the search takes place. Inspiration will stay with you as the evening comes to an end; perfect for the finale of this season’s series of Movies in the Park. As a reminder, for those of you that might not be familiar, Memorial Park is centrally located behind city hall and features lush grass, a covered playground, and picnic pavilion. The location, with easy access to the bike route, makes this historic park one of our easiest accessible spots to relax. Plus, the park lighting provides enough illumination to facilitate navigating the area without negatively affecting the movie’s visibility when it starts when the sky darkens enough. Parking is available on Butler and in the park’s parking lot, which can be accessed from Jones Avenue.
