thinkshopbuy...LOCAL From the desk of Dr. Scanlon Dr. Jim Scanlon, Superintendent West Chester Area School District The West Chester Area School District is one of the highest performing school systems in the region, state, and nation. But some of the best features of our district have very little to do with test scores. Our school district is fortunate to live in a community with a thriving business base, and with business leaders who care deeply about our students. Local businesses donate about $750,000 each year in scholarships for our high school students, and The West Chamber of Commerce alone provides more than $6,000 in scholarships. The Chamber also provides job shadowing experiences at local businesses that allow our students to get a glimpse of life in different industries. They get to work for a semester with a local professional, gaining valuable skills and experiences. These are invaluable opportunities that can shape career directions and college choices. Our goal is simple: to provide the best possible educational experience so all children can achieve their personal best. In addition to strong academics, arts, and athletics, we focus on preparing students for the real world. We place importance not just on the technology they’ll be asked to understand and use, but on the “soft skills” that our business community tells us are so important. Our schools also spend a great deal of time encouraging our students to be kind to others, and to give back to the community through service projects. Our children are very fortunate to be growing up in a community that shares these values. It is a great place to live, work and raise children. Thanks for investing in our businesses and community.
