WHERE TO CALL TO LEARN ABOUT... Registering a child for school: Registrations are all completed at the Districtʼs Central Office facility at 2373 Gordon Road. For more information, call 989-358-5025. Student health concerns: The Alpena Public School District has partnered with Alcona Health Center to open the Wildcat Health Clinic at Lincoln School. For information, contact our school nurse at 989-358-5946. Special learning needs: If you suspect that your child might require support for a disability while at school, discuss your concerns with your childʼs teacher who can help you understand what sorts of testing or services might be helpful. Refer questions to your building principal or to the Director of Special Education at 989-358-5800. My childʼs grades or attendance: Grades and attendance can be checked online! Go to our website at www.alpenaschools.com and look for the “ParentVUE & StudentVUE” link. Contact your school for login information. EMERGENCY INFORMATION Some days are less than a perfect “10.” When that happens, hereʼs what you need to know. Snow Days/Cancellations When conditions arise that require school to be cancelled for the day, every attempt is made to make the call as early as possible. School staff immediately begin notifying local media outlets including TV and radio stations. Also, a notice is immediately posted on our district website at www.alpenaschools.com. Families and staff are also contacted via SchoolMessenger, our automated calling system. Itʼs important that we have current contact information to make this system work, so call your childʼs school if you move or change your phone number. During an emergency, calls directly to school are not likely to be answered, especially if staff members are struggling with the weather, so be patient and check our website often. Early Dismissal Although itʼs rare, it does happen that weather or other conditions take us by surprise and require that school be dismissed early. When this happens, we immediately notify local TV and radio stations, post information on our website at www.alpenaschools.com and send out a SchoolMessenger call. Tune in to your favorite media outlet to get details and help keep our phone lines clear in case of emergency. Have a Plan! We encourage families to develop emergency plans to prepare for early dismissals. Arranging special transportation and child care can provide peace of mind during an uncertain situation. Talk to your student about your plan. We also encourage parents of younger children to communicate any special instructions to the teacher and school office personnel. Start Here...Go Anywhere!
