steps STITCHING TILE SCENE TOGETHER Even though this method is somewhat invisible on the top of the quilt, use a matching thread of mono-filament thread when stitching in the ditch. Be sure to stitch around the outside of the entire quilt, within the seam allowance. Note: we darkened stitch lines for instructions. Start by cutting your binding strips 2.5” wide, which creates an approximate 5/8” binding. We will show you how to attach the strips in order to create one long binding strip measuring 70”. This will be enough to wrap around the entire perimeter of your quilt. With right sides together, lay two strips of binding perpendicular to each other. Then, at a 45° angle, stitch the two strips together leaving a 1/2” seam allowance. Then, trim the seam allowance to 1/4” and press open. Repeat to connect enough strips to equal 70”. Using a 1/2” seam allowance, start at point A and stitch to point B, which is 1/2” from the edge of perpendicular fabric. Then continue stitching on a 45° angle to point C, which is the edge of the binding strip. Starting at the bottom left side of the quilt, place the binding strip along the edge of the quilt, right sides together. Fold the start edge back as shown in the dotted circle and pin strip in place along the dotted line. | |101 Next, trim the excess backing fabric from around your quilt top. You should still have your 1/2” seam allowance remaining. Now you are ready to attach the binding. BACK OF TILE SCENE
