CONSUMER SPOTLIGHT | All Access | 13 MEET MICHAEL Ladies and gentlemen, we at Anita Goodesign would like you to meet Mike Johns, the very first feature for our brandnew Consumer Spotlight section in our All Access publication. Mr. Johns is from the south Georgia area and has been sewing for twenty plus years! At forty-four years, old he has really mastered his craft and recently began dabbling in the world of embroidery. As a teenager, Mike took interest in costume design which would soon become his life long passion. After serving in the United States Navy, he began working with the theater at Florida State University where he would later earn his Master’s Degree in Fine Art. Around 2013 Mike left his career in finance to begin working with free standing embroidery and quilting full time. What’s most impressive about Mike is the amount of time and effort he puts into each and every one of his pieces and the love he has for his art! We asked Mike to give us a brief explanation for each of his favorite projects, here’s what he had to say! CELTIC QUILT The approximate embroidery time per large block was about five hours. The quilt consists of a large center block, four sashing blocks and four corner blocks. Collections used: Celtic Mix & Match Quilting Collection STAR WREATH The approximate embroidery and construction time was less than an hour for this project but I love the way it looks and it was really easy to make! Collections used: Anita Express - Mini Star Wreath ANIMAL AND MANDALA QUILT This project was created by applying an embroidery design into a quilt block format and utilizing two different collections. The approximate embroidery time of sixteen hours for full quilt and has fifteen individual blocks. Collections used: Colorful Creatures and Mandala Madness
