Top Ten Places to see Fall Foliage Don’t miss out on the turning of the leaves this fall. It is a spectacular event that is bursting in this region. Here are the the top p ten ways to enjoy the fall colors this year. Bucks County Covered Bridge tour and a drive on River Road from New Hope A drive up river road (rt. 32) is perhaps one of the prettiest drives any time of year but especially in the fall. Rolling hills along the river will create the most beautiful fall reflections on the Delaware River. There are plenty of romantic restaurants nestled along the river to stop in along the way. Some of my favorites: Inn at Phillips Mill, The Golden Pheasant, Frenchtown Inn, Center Bridge Inn and Bowman’s Tavern with live music every night of the week. Bowman’s Hill Wildlife Preserve is the place to stop to see over 2000 species of native Pennsylvania blooms and wildlife, with 80 species endangered and rare. Hot Air Balloon ride over Chester or Bucks County (US Hot Air Balloon Team) The U.S. Hot Air Balloon Team offers rides over Bucks and Chester County daily. You can even take off from the Inn at Barley Sheaf Farms B&B in Holicong, a few miles from Peddler’s Village. Wharton State Forest in the New Jersey Pinelands and Batsto Village A state park is always a great place to enjoy nature and the last bit of warm weather we have coming until Winter. Batsto Village is a working village within the state park where you can visit historic properties and see Colonial demonstrations on the weekend. A drive or walk Through Philadelphia’s Fairmount Park Fairmount park is a gem within the city of Philadelphia, with rolling hills and historic mansions to tour. The Waterworks and Boathouse row are great places to overlook the city and enjoy a short hike. Tour some of the mansions in the park along the way. Longwood Gardens Crysanthemum Festival (Chester County) Nothing says fall better than Longwood Gardens. The Crysanthemum Festival goes on the whole month of November with mums and other plants bursting with the rich vibrant colors of Autumn in the gardens and conservatory. 1 4 A C T I V E S E N I O R L I V I N G | V O L U M E 1 | I S S U E 2 Ridley Creek State Park and Tyler Arboretum (Delaware County) If you have never been to Ridley Creek State Park, you need to get there before winter. The walking trails are easy, along the babbling creek. The Colonial Plantation offers special events, colonial hearth cooking and house tours of the mansion RIDLEY CREEK SAT E PARK A trip to Lancaster, PA (Lancaster County) The Amish countryside is lush this time of year, with rolling green hills offsetting Autumn colors. It is my favorite time to visit Dutch Country. Intercourse is my favorite little town, with Amish craft shops lining the streets as well as Kitchen Kettle Village, a unique blend of shops and restaurants. An overnight stay at the Intercourse Spa Bed and Breakfast is a nice treat if you want to stay for the weekend. Black River and Western Railroad from Ringoes to Flemington New Jersey Leaving from the Flemington Outlet Center, this trip through mountainous terrain will make you forget that you are in New Jersey. Just breathtaking. Stopping for some outlet shopping isn’t a bad thing either! New Hope-Ivyland Railroad Fall Foliage If you love Bucks County but want someone else to do the driving, hop aboard the New Hope Ivyland Railroad which boards right outside of the Triumph Brewing Company which is a great spot for lunch and live entertainment. The railroad also hosts special murder mystery, dinner trains and excursions year round. Chanticleer Gardens, Wayne PA (Delaware County) We recently discovered these beautiful natural woodlands and gardens that are quite breathtaking with surprises around every corner. Beautifully kept grounds and easy walking trails.
