by Danny Watson. Talk about a blast from the past! Last year I could never have imagined I would be covering the Original Okeechobee Mudfest. It was four days packed with old school mud bogging everyone has been craving for the past five years. Here at Offroad Nation we were thrilled to hear it was coming back, and jumped on the chance to purchase tickets the moment they became available online. We planned on getting as much time in that rich black mud as possible, and we were not disappointed.         Thursday found me loaded down heading north on the turnpike anticipating the sweet smell of race fuel with a hint of grape. I met up with our usual group of lunatics and we convoyed all the way to the gate. I pulled right up to the pay booth; everything seemed to be running extremely smooth. We locked down what I considered to be one of the best camping spots out there right between Hwy 70 and the mud hole. As the sun set Thursday night I gazed across a field of cattails and pencil grass knowing it was the last time it would look like that this weekend.                Friday morning I woke up to the thump of truck motors blazing across the hole. No other place compares to Okeechobee when it comes to long passes across a deep hole. This place allows to you ride the rev limiter for minutes as you shoot over 44 acres which happens to be the largest mud hole in Florida. We got up and smashed a Red Bull before jumping in the truck to knock some dew off whatever cattails were left standing out there. It didn’t take long for trucks and buggies to start mashing down the marsh, leaving the iconic black hole we have come to revere. One of the best things we enjoy about coming out to Okeechobee is the fact that you can camp all the way around the edge of
