Linda Cubbedge, Director, Victorious Living Living Prison Correspondence How We Ended Up In Prison One visit with an incarcerated friend in 2013 opened Kristi Overton Johnson’s eyes to the hopelessness of life behind bars and the value of every life to God. It also birthed in her a desire to encourage the hearts of incarcerated men and women. With a surrendered heart, Kristi told God she would go to prison. He responded to her commitment by opening doors for her Victorious Living magazine to be distributed in the prison system, and then He brought Kristi (and her water ski boat) onto prison yards to share His message of hope. Inmates responded in great number to the hope of the Gospel presented by Kristi behind prison walls and through the powerful testimonies presented in Victorious Living magazine. Many inmates wrote letters seeking encouragement, spiritual discipleship, and fellowship. To meet the request for correspondence and mentorship, a Victorious Living Correspondence team was assembled, directed by Linda Cubbedge. Shine Bright and Write events were also created to give people the opportunity to carry out the Lord’s command to visit inmates through the act of correspondence in a group setting. Our team now consists of people from several states. Today, Victorious Living magazine, handwritten correspondence, and monthly devotionals are invading the darkness of prisons with the love and hope of God in 22 states. They are going where no man can go. Many inmates are isolated from the general prison population. God sends our publication and correspondence to them in their darkest hours.
