CONCLUSION Breathing under water is not difficult. The hardest part of scuba diving physically is putting the gear on, and even that becomes easy with experience. You need to develop certain breathing habits for some circumstances, but other than that, there isn’t much to learn about breathing on scuba. You will soon find yourself feeling confident about handling your equipment in the water. The more practice and experience you have, the easier it will become. Your goal is to make working with your equipment as easy as your instructor makes it look. If you find yourself struggling with your gear, this indicates that you do not understand something about how your gear works. Learn to work slowly and deliberately. Think of the steps involved in performing a skill with an item of gear and then execute them one at a time. Practice will help make the steps blend together into a natural motion for you. Learning the other skills of diving, such as buoyancy control, entries, and emergency procedures requires more training and practice. You will start to develop these skills during your NAUI Scuba Diver certification course and will polish them with additional NAUI continuing education courses (figure 3-72).
