orientation to a variety of diving sites and conditions. The types of dives include navigation, deep, and night or limited visibility diving as well as instructor-specified dives. The instructor-specified dives can include light salvage, underwater mapping, shore diving, or boat diving as well as many other activities. THE MASTER SCUBA DIVER COURSE After you have completed the NAUI Advanced Scuba Diver course and several specialty courses, you should take the NAUI Master Scuba Diver course. You need not be an expert diver to take this course, but you should have the desire to learn skills that are more advanced (figure 9-3). This course provides you with eight additional supervised dives where you learn new, useful skills. It also adds to your knowledge and introduces you to various specialty areas. Underwater navigation, limited-visibility or night diving, search and recovery, light salvage techniques, and deep-diving procedures are included in the course. Every diver should complete a NAUI Master Scuba Chapter 9- Diving Activities Diver course. At this level, you will have the knowledge, skills, and ability to enjoy diving in a variety of conditions and locations. TRAINING ASSISTANT SPECIALTY COURSE You can also gain certification as a NAUI Training Assistant. A NAUI Training Assistant helps other divers during training activities supervised by a NAUI instructor. Helping other divers can include acting as an escort on an underwater tour or assisting a tired diver. To enter the NAUI Training Assistant course, you must be certified as a NAUI Advanced Scuba Diver and as a NAUI Scuba Rescue Diver. LEADERSHIP COURSES Perhaps you will want to get involved in a leadership role in diving. Once you have completed the Master Diving Activities 199 FIGURE 9-2.
