BEING A RESPONSIBLE DIVER When you are certified as a NAUI diver, you will continue to learn through your diving experiences. During these experiences, you should remember that you have certain responsibilities to yourself, your buddy, and others. The following is a partial list of what is expected of you as a NAUI diver: • Keep yourself mentally and physically fit for diving. • Continue your diving education. • Use complete, correct, and well-maintained equipment. • Know your dive site, and avoid or abort diving in hazardous conditions. • Be prepared to handle emergencies. • Always dive with a buddy, and remain together while diving. • Avoid running low on air, control your buoyancy at all times, and ascend properly. • Keep conservation in mind regarding the environment. • Demonstrate proper etiquette toward boaters, fishermen, and the public. It is now time to look ahead to fun, adventure, and all the excitement you envisioned when you started this course. That strange, wonderful world of inner space is finally accessible and waiting for you to enter. Enjoy yourself, and fulfill your responsibilities as a NAUI diver.
