NEWS Vote REALTOR® Party! ORRA supported candidates show favorable positions on local real estate issues Those up for election November 7 have already undergone vetting by the ORRA Candidate Screening Committee Orlando grabs #2 summer housing market hotspot The city’s population growth and strong economic forecast combine with affordability and demographic factors Orlando's consistently strong demand, home price appreciation, favorable affordability, and economic and demographic growth has rocketed it to the number 2 spot in the "Top Single-Family Housing Markets Report for Summer 2017." The report, from online real estate marketplace Ten-X, ranks the nation's 50 largest housing markets according to current and forecasted housing fundamentals. Orlando rose this year to second from the 8th spot in the 2016 study. According to Ten-X research, Orlando’s housing market continues to impress as one of the nation’s top performers amid its lengthy recovery. Annual sales growth has now outpaced the U.S. rate for 10 straight quarters, with sales most recently up 5.7 percent year-overyear and within 12 percent of their bubble peak. Home prices have risen more than 60 percent over the past five years, continuing their impressive ascent this quarter with a 10 percent year-over-year gain. Even so, prices still hover 15 percent below their prior peak and offer great affordability, suggesting that there is additional room to grow. Study researchers also point out that Orlando boasts phenomenal population growth and a strong economic forecast, both indicators of healthy demand that should continue to drive the metro’s single-family-home market. Locally, members of the Candidate Screening Subcommittee consider each candidate up for election based on his or her past voting record and/or empathy to real estate issues. Candidates are invited to participate in a screening process and interview before the subcommittee presents its candidate recommendations to the Board of Directors for final approval.
