of which track you prefer – is a clear portrait of what makes this 5-piece groove-machine great as a band – as singers, as songwriters, as arrangers, and as producers. Below are his answers: Breakthru: How would you describe your style? JRB: Musically, a fusion of R&B, Soul and Smooth Jazz. Lyrically to give you - the listener - a real story that just might be yours. Breakthru: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What’s your process? JRB: Inspiration is all around us. People you meet, stories they tell. Love adventures. The ones you never see coming. . . . The process . . . sometimes a phrase, a great melody. Take the pieces, puzzle them together and if we like the picture we paint it. Breakthru: When did you form the Just Right Band? JRB: As the Just Right Band – JRB – the group was formed in 2014. So we’ve been together for three years now. There are seven of us: Kurt, Petoe, Shammika, Michael, Warner, Emile and me. We all grew up in New Orleans. We are all friends, but were working in different bands. We started playing together because it was a chance to play what we wanted. It turned out to be a lot of fun and it just felt right. This was the birth of the Just Right Band. Breakthru: What inspired you to make music together? JRB: Well, we have always played together in some form or another. Four of us are former members of Louisiana Purchase. If you checked closely you would find brothers, cousins and friends. In terms of inspiration, I would say Michael Veal “Ve'Al” gave us the fuel to do this. He's a super-talented brother. His talents deserved a platform, hence the debut CD I Want More. Once we started playing together it became a labor of love and all of us are doing what we can to make it fly. Breakthru: Who writes your songs? JRB: K-WEB Productions, four members of JRB, consisting of Kurt, Warner, Emile and me. We are responsible for lyrics and music. We currently have two tracks up for movie consideration and are in the process of producing other acts. Keep an eye out for K-WEB! Breakthru: What has been your biggest challenge as a band? JRB: I think we would all agree that getting the support from local media has been one of our biggest challenges. Getting our music played locally in our own home town. We just haven’t figured that part out yet, but we’re working on it. We currently have over four million plays on SoundCloud. The CD is available on all platforms – iTunes, Apple Music and Spotify and sold exclusively at Peaches Records and Tapes. I Want More is currently being played in 19 different countries. It’s being distributed worldwide by KES Music & Video Distribution of Chicago. Breakthru: How long have you known each other? JRB: Wow! ... Short answer, forever. We are real friends, as I said earlier. Brothers, cousins, and friends. If you’re a musician in New Orleans you work with everyone else. You become like family. It’s been that way for as long as we can remember. NOTE: Just Right Band’s I Want More CD has been officially entered in four categories in the first round of the 2018 Grammy Awards. The categories are Album of the Year, Best Traditional R&B Performance, Best R&B Song (the title track) and Best R&B Album. The band’s upcoming public performances in the New Orleans area include: Sept. 17: After Dark Sports Bar, 419 Lapalco Blvd., Gretna Sept. 24 and Oct. 29: Bullet’s Sports Bar, 2441 A.P.
