Welcome, Friends. All right everybody, gather round. Let’s have a family meeting. 18 THE BIGGEST LITTLE KID ON THE MOUNTAIN What do you call a resort GM who drops cliffs, skateboards with his kids, and races in the Banked Slalom? In Waterville Valley, you call him Tim. By Sarah Tuff NEW HAMPSHIRE’S FAMILY RESORT Some of us are brand new; some of us have been here for decades. Last year was our momentous 50th anniversary season and I couldn’t be prouder of the progress and effort we gave to this place. Waterville Valley has seen ups and downs over the last five decades, and we have always celebrated our successes and worked through our challenges together, as a team. Now we are looking ahead to the next 50 years and, as has always been true, the heart of the White Mountains, this town, and this resort, is community. Our Waterville Valley family is shaped by locals, visitors, and staff. Skiers, hikers, bikers, lodge loungers, and pow drifters. Parents, children, and kids at heart. Newbies, ski bums, professionals, and everything in between. Families have begun here, history has been made here, and throughout it all people have continued to return to be with friends, get outside, and above all, have fun. We face a new challenge with the $7.5-million investment and the multiyear commitment we have made to revitalizing and progressing Waterville Valley Resort to a new level (see page 13 for full details). Thank you for being a part of this community as we embark on Phase II and another monumental year. Tim Smith President & General Manager, Waterville Valley Resort FEATURES 23 WATERVILLE IN MY WORDS Experiencing winter as one endless costume craze, hurtling down a slope through a snowball-throwing mob, growing up in the “school” of these mountains – the experiences we carve in this Valley are built a bit differently. But these four Valley diehards wouldn’t have it any other way. As told to Meghan McCarthy McPhaul
