So be honest with your cabin rental provider about your comfort level. You should not need a special vehicle (e.g., 4x4), but it’s always a good idea to let us know if you’re driving a sports car or other low-sitting vehicle. Ditto if you’re riding a motorcycle or towing a trailer. #2 Snuggling by the fire: For cabins with wood burning fireplaces, firewood is typically provided. But fireplaces usually don’t have a gas starter. So, if you are not proficient at starting a fire, you might want to bring small Duraflame logs or some other type of fire starter. Firewood is not provided for firepits and outdoor fireplaces, but bundles of wood can be purchased locally. (Note: It is VERY bad manners to cut wood on rental property.) While the settings are rustic and natural, today’s cabins are far from primitive. Visitors enjoy cozy comforts and conveniences - from high-end home designs to amenities such as luxurious hot tubs, fireplaces and rec rooms. #3 Using Your Cell Phone: Verizon and AT&T seem to have the best overall coverage in the Blue Ridge area. Cabins have a landline for local calls, but you’ll need to bring a calling card for making long distance calls. Of course, wifi is available in each cabin, too. #4 Soaking in the Hot Tub: You can rest easy. Hot tubs are drained, scrubbed and refilled after each rental. All you’ll need to do is adjust the heat setting and allow time for the water to reach your desired temperature. #5 Avoiding Damage Fees: In lieu of a traditional damage deposit, many cabin rental companies now offer a Damage Protection Waiver — a modest, non-refundable fee designed to protect you from charges due to accidental damage.
