TYPES OF APPLIQUÉ This is the most used appliqué technique when stitching out our designs. The satin stitch that finishes the appliqué needs to be a least 4mm wide. If it is thinner that, you may risk the appliqué slipping out from under the finishing stitch. This is a traditional technique that looks like the fabric pieces were stitched down by hand once it is completed. The design is digitized by bringing the thread the thread into the design in a series of ‘E’ stitches and then back out. Blanket Stitch appliqué is an easy way to give your embroidery designs a home spun look! GHOST STITCH APPLIQUÉ Our digitizers often use this technique when creating a design that was not originally drawn for appliqué or when one outline looks too bold. This is done using two separate finishing stitches. The first stitch is basically what is holding the appliqué in place. It should stitch out in the same color as the appliqué, making it almost invisible. You then finish your design with a standard satin stitch. This style looks great with outlines that are contrasting. EMBROIDERY 101 | All Access | 10 STANDARD APPLIQUÉ BLANKET STITCH APPLIQUÉ EMBROIDERY 101
