EMBROIDERY 101 Our folded fabric technique is usually used in quilt blocks as borders or to create a background for a block. It can also be used as an appliqué in a design. This is done by using multiple pieces of fabric which are folded over to look like they were pieced together. The pieces all need to be folded in one direction to avoid open seams. The tutorial of each collection will give you detailed instructions on how to create specific designs. The folded fabric method is always completed in three steps: 1. Placement stitch - showing where to place folded fabric. 2. Folding stitch - this will secure fabric in place and guide you which way to fold your fabric. 3. Tack down stitch - will secure your folded fabric in place. EMBROIDERY 101 | All Access | 11 TYPES OF APPLIQUÉ Ragged Edge Appliqué is simple to create. Once you have placed and tacked down your appliqué fabric, a basting stitch will stitch out. Simply remove your basting stitch and you will have what appears to be extra fabric hanging out past the tack down stitch to your appliqué. From here, using a pair of scissors, clip around that extra fabric every 1/4”. This will give the appliqué the ragged edge look. Rag quilts are extremely popular with the quilting community right now! Unlike traditional quilting, rag quilts have exposed seam allowances on the front of the quilt while the back has finished, traditional seams. FOLDED FABRIC APPLIQUÉ RAGGED EDGE APPLIQUÉ
