45 The advantages of receiving services in the home are many: • Parents often feel more comfortable when asking questions, discussing concerns and talking about their needs when they are in their own home. • Home visitors are better able to tailor their support and guidance based on the families’ needs. • Transportation is not a barrier to receiving services. • Children are more comfortable and open in their own home. • By observing the family in their home, home visitors can build on their strengths and can help the parents identify risk factors in the children’s growth and development. • Isolated parents develop a connection to the outside community and the services available. Manatee County’s home visiting programs are available throughout the formative years. Some programs begin prenatally while other programs work with older children. Some focus on prenatal health, parent/child interaction or providing support and guidance, while others concentrate on school readiness activities. Each program provides amazing benets for all their participants. Families often pay thousands of dollars for a “coach” when they have a baby, but these services are available here in Manatee County for FREE. When families engage in home-visiting services they build relationships: relationships with their children, the home visitor, other families, and the community. They learn how to access the resources the community has to offer. Home-visiting services allow families' to receive a personalized plan that focuses on their families individual goals. All parents strive to be the best parent they can be and home-visiting programs help parents reach this goal!
