Through book drives, the ���������������������������������������������������������������������������������������� incentive? Those Key Club members who collected the most books in this challenge had their trip to a conference paid for by the Manatee Sunrise Kiwanis club. The Early Learning Coalition also donated many books to help get the Book Bus going. And more serendipitous assistance came from a completely anonymous donor who enabled the Kiwanians to purchase a semi full of over 40,000 books through a program in conjunction with �������������������������������������������������������� ���������� �������������������� ������������������ ���������������� ������������ ���� many featuring familiar characters from �������������� �������� �������������� ���� ���������������� �������� ������������ wrapped and ready bus, Jessica Pelot was ready to get out into the community. The Book Bus has been sighted in the ������������������������������������������������������������������������������ Parade, and local events like the Kiwanis Christmas in August. 2017 marks their second school year where the Kiwanians plan to take the Book Bus to local schools and allow each child to climb aboard and select a free book to take home. “I love to read,” Pelot explains, “So, my goal is to read every book we have available on the Book Bus. That way when a child may be stumped or not necessarily a fan of reading, I can ask what interests ������������������������������������������������������������������������������������ On the Manatee Sunrise Kiwanis Facebook page, there is a stunning picture of a little girl proudly hugging a ���������������������������������������������������������������������������� �������� ���������� ������������ ���������� ���������������������� �� �� �������������� illustrator Tomie dePaola: “Reading is important, because if you can read, you can learn anything about everything and everything about anything.” This past summer, as part of the Suncoast Reading Challenge, roughly 500 children at the Boys and Girls Club were treated to a Book Bus visit and were able to select not just one, but six books. Those lucky readers left with a small personal library, all thanks to generous people willing to share �������������������������������������������������������������������������������������� words open up to young readers.
