STEPS TO RECEIVE AID
Steps to Apply for Need-Based Financial Aid or Federal Direct Loans at Hillsborough Community College
1. Apply to HCC. Complete our online application.
2. Select an academic program. See what programs HCC offers in our online catalog (hccfl.edu/catalog).
Certain short-term programs are not eligible for financial aid. Also, students must be degree-seeking to be
eligible for financial aid.
3. Create an FSA ID at fsaid.ed.gov/npas/index.htm.
a. This will allow you to submit your FAFSA electronically.
b. Parents of dependents will also need to create an FSA ID.
4. Complete the FAFSA.
a. Submit the FAFSA online at fafsa.ed.gov.
b. Include HCC’s federal school code 007870 in the section asking which school should
receive your results.
c. If the student applying for financial aid is a dependent, the parents’ tax return
information will also need to be submitted.
5. Turn in all transcripts. This includes all high school (and GED) and other higher education institutions. This is
required to receive financial aid.
6. Check the MY DOCUMENTS section in your HawkNet account for updates on any missing documents and/or
processes needed to complete your financial aid application.
7. Check your HCC HawkMail for important notices and updates from financial aid. HawkMail is HCC’s official
form of communication, so it is important that you check it regularly.
