Total Knee Replacement
andHome Sweet Home
in Less Than 24 Hours
Dan Penland
“I put up with pain in my knee for over a
year,” says former Chatsworth, Georgia,
mayor Dan Penland. “Finally, I decided to
make an appointment with an orthopedic
surgeon to find out what was wrong.”
Dan met with Nick Reed, MD. They
discussed his symptoms and Dr. Reed
examined his knee. Next, an X-ray was
performed. “I wasn’t surprised when
Dr. Reed told me that I needed a knee
replacement,” says Dan. “I immediately
scheduled the surgery.”
What did surprise Dan was what type of
total knee replacement surgery he would
receive. “Dr. Reed told me that I was an
excellent candidate for outpatient joint
replacement,” says Dan. “He said that I
could have my surgery at Hamilton Medical
Center and be back home in less than 24
hours. This really appealed to me because
I didn’t want to have an extended hospital
stay if it wasn’t necessary. The day of my
surgery, everything went like clockwork. I
was actually walking down the hall about
five hours after the surgery. The whole
process went smoothly and my knee feels
very good.” Dan has now returned to
his normal activities, including a golf trip
to Scotland! orthopedic surgeon.
