By George Walker - Commander American Legion Post 154
We’ve made it through Pirate Fest, Halloween (somewhat lessened by
Hurricane IRMA) and the Georgia/Florida football game. Now it’s time for
Veteran’s Day with a parade in Savannah, followed by Thanksgiving and the
great food that goes with it.
On Veteran’s Day visit the “Circle of Freedom” on Butler Avenue and

take the time to think about where we would be without our servicemen.
Remember the past, with so many veterans from World War II (only a few are
left), Korea and Vietnam dying every day. Remember Grenada, Panama, and
the Gulf War which has taken the lives of so many servicemen.
Remember the War on Terror, which tragically hit home on September 11,
2001, and continues today. With this came the high cost in death and injury
to both civilian and military citizens of the United States.
Don’t wait for Veteran’s Day on November 11; take the time, find a
serviceman or woman, active or not, shake their hand and thank them for
being willing to answer the call.
Bingo is on Friday at 8pm. Cards go on sale at 7pm. Horseshoes are
Saturday at 7pm, signup at 6:30. Both events are open to the public and
everyone is invited to participate.
The Legion and Auxiliary meet on the second Monday of the month, with
social hour (and food) starting at 6pm and the meeting at 7pm. The Sons of
the Legion meet on the third Monday at 7pm.
As always, Linda or Joseph will have the canteen open at 5pm every day
except Sunday. We are closed on Sunday unless there is a special event.
